The Pediatric department takes care of the new born and children. For many villages in and around Puttaparthi, our hospital is the only center for Pediatric care.
Children are given outpatient and in-patient care when indicated. The services include curative as well as preventive care. Parents are given advice regarding child care in health and illness by individual counseling, leaflets in Telugu and posters with pictures and audio visual clips.
The Department conducts an asthma clinic for children once in 2 weeks for evaluating the patients and educating the parents.
The child development clinic assesses and provides the necessary therapy for babies and children with concerns in development. Counseling is done for care of normal babies for optimum development.
NICU
- The neonatal unit (NICU) takes care of sick babies. The unit is equipped with warmers, monitors, central oxygen/air, non-invasive CPAP ventilator, resuscitator, photo-therapy units and infusion pumps.
- Babies born in the hospital are given vaccines before discharge. Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) screening is done for all needy premature babies. All the babies before discharge are screened for hearing assessment with OAE.
- Our hospital is practically baby friendly where all mothers are counseled to exclusively breast feed babies till 6 months.
Academics:
The department conducts academic sessions regularly on various Pediatric topics as well as preventive measures. This includes didactic sessions, power point presentations, poster competitions and quiz for doctors, nurses and other staff. Some of the topics covered are Clean India drive, Breast feeding week and ORS week. It is heartening to see that with successful exclusive breast feeding and preventive care and education, the number of children becoming seriously ill or needing admission to hospital has declined by the grace of Bhagawan.
